The City put out the Call to Artists in August 2019, announcing a banner contest where the winning pieces will be displayed on the light poles throughout the City. Out of 46 artists who submitted, 3 were chosen for their designs:

•    Matt Hyland of Mount Dora – “Sunset on the Lake”

Sunset on the Lake Banner Design

•    Cathy Shoemaker of Mount Dora – “Donnelly House”

Donnelly House Banner Design

•    Christine Smith of Umatilla – “The Sunset”

The Sunset Banner Design

Their banner designs were picked by a panel of judges from the Mount Dora Public Arts Commission to be used Citywide, based on illustrations of the City’s tagline, "Someplace Special." Each winner received an $800 cash prize.

“The members of the Commission were so excited about the quality and the quantity of the submissions, which evidence a thriving arts community in Mount Dora,” said Harlow Middleton, Chair of the Public Arts Commission. “The City will proudly fly these banners to honor Someplace Special.”

The banners will be hung Citywide in January 2020. A banner hanging celebration is scheduled for Friday, January 10, at 6:00 PM at the Mount Dora Center for the Arts. This event is free and open to the public.
