Nick Girone was elected Mount Dora Mayor November 2015. Prior to that, he as a Council Member-At-Large from November 2012 to November 2014. Nick and his wife Judy relocated to The Lakes of Mount Dora from Vineland, NJ. He has two children, Deborah (deceased) and Eric. They are the proud grandparents to Matthew, Angelina, Courtney, Rocco, Zachary, Isabella and Marvin.
Nick has a Bachelor of Science in Industrial Management from the University of Cincinnati, and a Master’s Degree in School Business Administration from Rowan University. He earned certification as a Registered Public Purchasing Official and a Qualified Purchasing Agent, and has a Time Study Analysis certification. Nick earned professional distinction as a Registered School Business Administrator, Emeritus. He served for over 16 years as a School Board Member for the Vineland, NJ school district and obtained the coveted Master School Board Member certificate.
Nick is a veteran, having served in the United States Army. He spent the majority of his professional life in the educational field as the Business Administrator of several New Jersey school districts and working for the New Jersey Department of Education as a Facilities Manager for several counties. He co-owned the Vineland Fireworks Company for 10 years, a family business. While living in the Cincinnati, Nick worked as an Industrial Engineer with the Cincinnati Milacron and Mosler Safe Company. He retired in 2006 as a School Business Administrator from the Fort Lee School District in NJ.
Nick is actively involved in the Mount Dora community, supporting a number of organizations and events. He is on the Board of Directors of the Mount Dora Sister Cities Association. He served as an Associate Director on the Mount Dora Music Festival. As Mayor, he believes very strongly in Transparency in government, Fiscal/Personal Accountability, and Two-Way Communication. He posts a monthly Newsletter on the City’s Website, along with a weekly open door at the Mayor’s Office in City Hall, usually on Thursdays. Mayor Girone wants the public and business owners to stop by and discuss issues without an appointment. He continues to stress planned economic development growth for the City along with the coordinated expansion of the infrastructure to support future needs.
Nick has recently been elected to the Board of Directors for the Florida League of Mayors, representing District 6. He also serves on the Lake-Sumter Municipal Planning Organization as the current Chairman-Elect for 2018.
