Overview
The City of Mount Dora lies in the heart of Central Florida just 30 minutes northwest of Orlando, with more than 15,000 permanent & several thousand seasonal residents.
The Mount Dora Police Department is a professional, proactive, community oriented police agency, which is dedicated to serving our community. In 1984, we were the first law enforcement agency in the United States to become accredited and therefore our moniker, “First in the Nation.”
We utilize the best equipment, latest technology, innovative techniques, and continual training to provide the finest law enforcement services possible. Our goal is to provide a safe environment for all of our families, businesses and visitors.

For Potential Applicants
We recruit throughout the community, at college campuses, and law-enforcement training centers in search of quality candidates with a good positive attitude and who meet our high standards. The process for becoming a Mount Dora Police Officer is very competitive and only a small percentage of applicants are offered a job.
The ideal candidate is mature and hard working with a strong desire to serve our community while maintaining the highest standards in the law enforcement profession. Applicants should possess a favorable work experience, good driving history, and a low rate of substance abuse.
Helpful Skills
In order to increase the chances of becoming a police officer with our department, it is helpful to possess at least one of the following: some college education, police or military experience, and/or Florida Police Certification.
